Blue Nile Giveaway

This is my new vintage sweater dress:

I love it because I can pretend it's teal in certain lights, because it looks fantastic with orange tights and because... buttons:

Buttons!

But, enough about the dress, let's talk giveaway.

Although you can't see it, because my hair decided to eat it, I am actually wearing this Blue Nile sterling silver branch necklace:

Branch Necklace in Sterling Silver - image via Blue Nile

Isn't it lovely?  The fine folks at Blue Nile were kind enough to send me a necklace and sent another for one of my readers.  It's part of their "Get One, Give One" campaign for the holidays.

But, because I love my Readers, I've decided to give away m personal necklace as well, so everyone will have two chances to win.  You can either keep it for yourself or gift it to a friend or loved one; they make perfect stocking stuffers!

So, how do you win?  It's easy.  Just follow Fashion for Giants either with Google Friend Connect or Bloglovin' (see the buttons on the sidebar) and leave a comment below saying you've done so.  I will choose two winners on Friday evening so make sure you check back Saturday to see if you've won.

Happy Monday, All!  And good luck!

Literary Stylings # 2: City of Dark Magic

Hello, and welcome to the second ever Literary Stylings Link Party and All-Around Good Time!  Today, I’m wearing a look inspired by the book City of Dark Magic, by Magnus Flyte:

Image via www.goodreads.com

As I've mentioned before, this wasn’t my favorite book that I read in July (it was, in fact, sort of terrible) but I was inspired by the descriptions of Prague at night:

Skirt: thrifted Ralph Lauren  Blouse: LOFT  Wedges: Matiko via Ideeli

And I tried to channel that in my look, what with the dark colors and the added sparkle of my accessories:

The photo above is supposed to be showing a close up of my accessories, but, mostly, I am just laughing my fool head off.  As I do.  I would, however, like to point out that I attached a rhinestone brooch to my necklace, a la Carrie at Petal by Petal and was super proud of myself.

Anyway, back to my outfit.  This is totally Prague at night, no?

Dark.  Magical.  Yep.  Totally.

And now for your literary stylings!  Bloggers, you can link to your literature-inspired look here:

And, don’t forget, if you’re not a blogger, you can post your literature-inspired look on the Fashion for Giants Facebook page!

Happy Tuesday, All!

P.S. For those curious about City of Dark Magic, it’s not very good at all.  It’s kind of all over the place and there are ridiculous amounts of ridiculous, gratuitous sex.  And not even good sex, just silly, pointless sex.  So much so that it ruins the book.  Not that the book was above being ruined otherwise; the copious sex scenes are not the only parts of the story that are poorly written.

True Blue

No, not the Madonna song*, the pants:

I have been looking for some summery skinnies as most of my skinnies are dark colors and/or corduroy.  I have a coral pair but wanted a pair in the blue/green family.  Unfortunately, all I could find were pastel colors.  I say unfortunately because my thighs hate pastel skinnies, and, to be honest, I don’t love them all that much either.  Happily, I was able to find these lovely true blue skinnies at JC Penney the other day:

And the color is perfect.  It’s summery without being pastel.  It pairs well with my favorite neutral, gray.  And it looks great with neon:

*Okay, fine, the Madonna song too:

Happy Wednesday, All!

Gracey and the Big Thigh Day

I am having a big thigh day today:

Don’t get me wrong, I always have big thighs.  My thighs will tell you themselves that they are the biggest, baddest thighs on the planet and that that is why they’re forming their own republic.

But, I think they're planning something because I could barely get these jeans over them today.  Usually when they act up, I like to quash their dreams of independence with a full skirt, but I’ve been too busy lately to chase down the rebel leaders.  The result?  My thighs in open rebellion.  And by open rebellion, I mean jeans:

Well, Thighs, enjoy it while it lasts.  Because as soon as I can marshal my forces, I’m coming after you with the biggest, fullest skirt I can find.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!  (Well, everyone except my thighs, of course).

Gracey Wins Again

I don’t wear this sweater dress/tunic/thingy very often because it’s quite difficult for me to style.  But, this morning, I thought if a shar pei can look cute covered in loose folds, so can I:

Okay, so maybe that's not the best logic I’ve ever applied to an outfit, but I kind of feel like this works.  Probably because I also wore a turtleneck and they make everything better.  In addition to the sweater thing (???) and the turtleneck (Gap), I also wore a knit pencil skirt (Elementz via Macy’s) and herringbone tights (Hue).  I finished the look with a belt (thrifted), cuffed boots (Gap) and a fringe necklace (Jessica Simpson via Macys).

In all honesty, I think it’s probably the belt that saved this look, not the turtleneck; although I think we can all agree that the turtleneck played a strong supporting role.  The problem is that no matter how carefully I arrange the folds of this sweater, it has a tendency to accentuate my tummy.  By belting it with a contrasting belt at the smallest part of my waist (also known as my ribs), I fool the eye into thinking my waist is smaller than it is.  Yeah, take that, foolish eyes; Gracey wins again! Muah ha ha ha ha.

Happy Thursday, All!

Loose and Lazy Stripes

I was out rather late last night for Last Thursday (I’ll post pictures tomorrow) so I just wanted to be comfortable today.  Hence this rather loose and lazy (slatternly?) outfit:

I layered a loose, striped tee (Target) over a loose, striped maxi dress (Gap), added flats (Target), a multi-colored scarf (Nordstrom) and a silver cuff (thrifted).  It was like wearing stripe-y pajamas, which is just what I needed after a late night of tipsy tomfoolery.  Seriously, this is so cozy and comfortable; I’m definitely keeping all of these pieces in The Giants Closet.

Happy Friday, All!  Have a wonderful weekend!

EBEW: Neon

Today is the Everybody, Everywear Neon Challenge.  I paired my neon with black and tan:

I would have liked to have gone for a more summery combination, but after a lovely, hot weekend and a gorgeous Monday, it’s raining again here in Oregon.  So, I wore my neon tank (Old Navy) layered over a white tank (Target) and under a tan cardigan (Gap).  I also wore black skinnies (Gap), gray and silver flats (Target) and a stack of gold, black and turquoise bracelets.

Actually, I'm not even sure this counts as neon.  If so, it's the most wearable neon ever.  Well, excepting neon pink, of course; I do love me some neon pink.  In fact, the only reason I didn't wear neon pink is because I'm trying to work my way through my closet so I can shop again and haven't worn any of these pieces yet.  BTW, they're all keepers, just in case you were curious.

For more, or actual, neon looks, make sure you visit Everybody, Everywear.

And have a Happy Tuesday, All!

Black Skirt # 6: Not a Midi, Not Quite a Maxi

This is another black, pleated skirt that I’ve had for months and have never worn:

I think it’s a beautiful skirt, but it’s also that not-quite-midi-not-quite-maxi length that confuses me.  On top of that, it seems a bit formal for work and I’m not the best at dressing things down.  However, I thought I’d give it a shot today so I paired the skirt (thrifted) with a thin, gray sweatshirt (Old Navy) and gray and silver flats (Target).  I also added a squash blossom necklace (vintage via Lil’ Gypsy) and a silver-necklace-as-bracelet.

And I liked it.  In fact, I felt this dressed down look was so successful that it convinced me to keep this skirt.  Well, this outfit and the fact that this skirt swooshes and swirls so nicely when I walk.  And because it has knife pleats and who doesn’t love knife pleats? But, mostly because it does this:

Of course, by keeping this one, I’ve increased my number of “keepers” to four black skirts, of which two are pleated.  I recognize that is still a lot of black skirts for a gal to have and I still have a few more to go, but let’s call it progress anyway, m’kay?

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Citron and Gray

I should have called this post “Citron and Wrinkles” because, holy smokes, does this blouse get wrinkly.  And this is after I ironed it this morning:

I still love it though, wrinkles and all; I just think citron is such a sunny, pretty color.  Because it’s still not quite warm yet here, although I do believe this weekend will be gorgeous, I paired the blouse (Old Navy) with gray jeans (Gap).  Because it’s not exactly cold today either, I risked an open toe and wore studded wedges (Vince Camuto).  I added a silver fringe necklace (Jessica Simpson Collection via Macys) and my vintage turquoise-bracelet (Ray’s Ragtime).

Most importantly, however, is that today is Friday!  About which I am even more excited than usual.  I have random, tentative plans for this weekend that may or may not involve music (listening, not playing; don’t be silly), sewing (undoubtedly poorly), a dance workout (Club Dance?  I don’t even know, but I’m excited) and/or hiking.  Realistically though, I’ll probably do nothing but sit in the sun reading a book.  Because I’m lazy like that.

What about you, Reader Friends?  Any exciting plans?  Or will you be joining me on the HMS Lazy?

Whatever your plans (or lack thereof), have a wonderful weekend, Everyone!
