Gracey and the Big Thigh Day

I am having a big thigh day today:

Don’t get me wrong, I always have big thighs.  My thighs will tell you themselves that they are the biggest, baddest thighs on the planet and that that is why they’re forming their own republic.

But, I think they're planning something because I could barely get these jeans over them today.  Usually when they act up, I like to quash their dreams of independence with a full skirt, but I’ve been too busy lately to chase down the rebel leaders.  The result?  My thighs in open rebellion.  And by open rebellion, I mean jeans:

Well, Thighs, enjoy it while it lasts.  Because as soon as I can marshal my forces, I’m coming after you with the biggest, fullest skirt I can find.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!  (Well, everyone except my thighs, of course).

No Words

Here is what I wore today:

The pants are vintage men’s golf pants (thrifted) and the top is vintage polyester (thrifted).  The yellow peep toes are Me Too (via Nordstrom) and the yellow bangle is from the Mississippi Street Fair in Northeast Portland.  And the earrings are Nikki Jacoby "Labyrinth" (via Crafty Wonderland):

Aside from an explanation of the pieces, I really have no words for this outfit.  But, I did have some random thoughts.  They went something like this:

"Is this outfit awesome?  It feels awesome.  But, it's Friday, so I may just be tired."

“My God but these pants are comfortable.  How is it that double knit is no longer a thing?”

“I still can’t believe these pants only cost a quarter.  Best thrifting purchase ever.”

“Heh, will you look at that.  The shape of the earrings totally go with the ‘Eastern’ shapes on this top; it’s almost like I planned it.  I wonder if anyone would believe I planned it.  Probably not.”

“This top is so ridiculous that it’s come back around to awesome.”

“Butterflies?  I don’t wear butterflies.  Thank goodness they're paired with some bad-ass orchids so I still look tough.”

“Wait.  Are those orchids? “

And, finally, “I wonder if this counts as pattern mixing?”

Happy Friday, Everyone!  Have a wonderful weekend!

Feeling My Way

You will probably not be surprised to learn that I have no idea what I’m doing when it comes to dressing myself.  I mean, I’ve figured out buttons and zippers pretty well, but figuring out what combination of items to button or zipper onto my body is a struggle.  For example, I’m just wearing a dress today, but went through three or four iterations of accessories before landing on this:

The dress (Target) actually used to have a greige skirt (you can see it here), but I dyed it because I don’t like greige.  The accessories I finally settled on are a tri-color belt (thrifted), red-orange beaded necklace (street fair) and leopard peep-toe mini wedges.  But, seriously, it was a struggle even though the dress just pulls on!

I don’t know why selecting clothes is so much work for me.  I don’t know if it’s because my closet is too big (possibly), or maybe it’s too small (less probable).  Or, maybe it’s because I don’t have a clearly defined style.  I think if I just decided that “boho chic” was my thing and didn’t purchase or wear anything that didn’t meet that aesthetic that getting dressed might be easier.  Instead I have Personal Style ADD, dressing one day in all neutrals and the next in three different patterns and four different colors.  For example, here are last week’s looks (note the lack of a cohesive theme):

Now, I don’t think any of you who read my blog are under the delusion that you’re reading the blog of a fabulously put together blogger.  But, if you are, I apologize for bursting your bubble.  In truth, I’m just feeling my way along, tossing a bunch of stuff on the bed and seeing what sticks.  For those of you who suspected that was my preferred methodology, you were right, and I appreciate you sticking around in spite of that.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Color Blocked Brights

I actually don’t have very much to say about this outfit.  And not because it's boring, either.  I find it rather fabulously un-boring myself:

And yet all I have to say is that I really like it.  Oh, and that it makes me happy.  It combines my favorite hot pink pants (Michael Michael Kors via Ross) with a brilliantly blue silk blouse (thrifted).  And, if that wasn’t enough (obviously it wasn’t), I added even more color with my yellow peep-toes (Me Too via Nordstrom) and a thick yellow bangle.

Honestly, folks, wearing this much color is sort of invigorating.  While I was riding my bike to work, I felt all peppy and stuff.  And I’m sure the commuters in their cars appreciated me spicing up their otherwise overcast morning with my bright colors and peppy peddling.  Well, probably.

Happy Thursday, All!

A New Record

I’m wearing pants two days in a row.  I think that may be a new record for me:

Today’s pants are cropped, floral Ralph Lauren (thrifted) with a crazy-high waist that makes me suspect that they may be from the late 80s or early 90s.  I paired them with an aqua sweater (Target) and yellow peep-toe mini-wedges (Me Too via Nordstrom).

Unlike yesterday’s actual pants, these cropped, colorful print pants are NOT perfectly serviceable and so will most likely not be cut from the team.  Also unlike yesterday's pants, I like these ones.  Really, the only reason I haven’t worn them before (I’ve had them about a month) is because they’re tough for me to style.  I don’t really do pastels, and we’ve established that I don’t really do pants, so pastel pants are quite a conundrum for me.

I think this outfit worked though and I have a couple more ideas so I’ve decided that thesepants shall stay.  For now.

Happy Friday, Everyone!

Last Seen: May 2, 2011

That’s right; these pants haven’t been seen, on this blog or otherwise, in over a year:

Honestly, I think it’s because they’re pants.  I don’t really wear pants.  I wear jeans and I wear leggings, but I’m in skirts and dresses the majority of the time.  And if I do wear pants, they’re usually cropped pants.  Actual-pants pants are just not my thing.

However, in the spirit of my exploration of the Land of Nosh Opping, I gave them a whirl today.  I paired the pants (Banana Republic Outlet) with a cream lace blouse (The Limited) layered over a black tank (Target).  I added a black patent belt (Nine West via Ross), yellow patent peep-toes (Me Too via Nordstrom) and yellow hoop earrings (Nordstrom).

And, it’s… okay.  These pants are perfectly serviceable.  And that’s not a bad thing to be; it just doesn’t really fit into my aesthetic.  I may not have a catch phrase for my style, but I can guarantee you that “Perfectly Serviceable” isn’t it.

So, why did I, a non-pants wearer, buy these pants?  Because I figured I might need them someday.  For example, what if I get a job where they don’t allow skirts or dresses due to the floor being made entirely of vents blowing hot air?  I’d need pants then, right?  Or, what if the next EBEW challenge is just “Pants” (as opposed to “Pants: The Musical,” which would be AWESOME).  Or someone may invent International Pants Day, and of course I’d want to be a part of that, so I’d need pants.

Looking over these reasons, none of them are very good, or probable, so I’m afraid these pants are going on the chopping block.  Let’s just hope International Pants Day never happens though, or I shall be very put out.

Happy Thursday, All!
