A Pop of Adorable

This outfit is all about the shoes.  These shoes:

They are Via Spiga and I was lucky enough to find them in my size at my local Goodwill and yes, those are hearts.  Also, they are friggin’ adorable.

I paired those adorable shoes with some polka dots because, well, of course:

That's lint, not lonely people glitter. ;-)

The polka dot tunic is Foxcroft  (similar) and is also thrifted.  Although the tunic is navy, I paired it with black pants (Vera Wang Simply Vera via Kohls) because, frankly I like black and navy together.  And I also really wanted to let the shoes pop.

Which I think they do:

In fact, they’re a pop of color and a pop of adorable.  Win-win!

Happy Tuesday, All!

Indigo Girl

I’m not sure today’s photos are really doing this dress justice.  They’re skewing a little cobalt when, in truth, this dress is a lovely, deep indigo:

Not that there is anything wrong with cobalt.  I love cobalt.  But this dress is not cobalt, it’s indigo.  I think these photos show it a little bit better:

Hmmph.  Maybe not.

But this photo definitely shows me doing The Duck Face Robot, which is a dance I made up this morning:

Ducks and robots aside, my dress is indigo, not cobalt.  And it’s vintage and warm (wool/acrylic blend) and has pockets, so it’s basically awesome.  In addition to my awesome dress of awesome indigo-ness, I also wore a turtleneck (Gap), tights (Hue via Macys) over which I wore OTK socks (Nordstrom), and suede boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom).  I also added a studded belt (JC Penney) and neon pink studs (Kate Spade New York via Nordstrom).

Also, if you don’t know who the Indigo Girls are, we may need to have a talk.  At the very least you should watch this video (to which you could dance The Duck Face Robot if you wanted):

You're welcome.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Oh, Hey There, Boobs

I like this dress, in theory, but I’m not sure it works in reality:

(Similar mixed print dress, Spanx sheer polka dot tights, similar Naughty Monkey boots)

In theory, it’s made of comfortable matte jersey, has great color, a fun pattern and a flattering cut.  In reality, I’m afraid it’s a little “Oh, hey there, Boobs” for my tastes.  I don’t think it’s obscene, but I fear it might be questionable:

Which is too bad, because I otherwise like this outfit.  The dress (Suzy Chin for Maggy Boutique via Ideeli) really is comfortable.  And I love the polka dot tights (Spanx Sheers via Nordstrom) and slouchy boots (Naughty Monkey via Nordstrom) with it.  I just worry about that swath of red fabric across the chest, especially coupled with the lower neckline.

But, oh, well.  Done is done.  And no one has actually said “Oh, hey there, Boobs” to me, so I’m going to say it’s fine.  At least for now.

Happy Thursday, All!

Monocreamatic

Today was the Everybody, Everywear Monochromatic Challenge.  I decided to go with monochromatic cream (or monocreamatic, if you will):

Monocreamatic

The Necklace

The Shoes

For this look, I paired a pleated skirt (vintage, thrifted) with a silk tank (thrifted).  I added a suede belt, worn backwards (thrifted) and nude platform sandals (Banana Republic) worn the correct way.  I also added a bib necklace (c/o Maurice’s) and a few bangles (Nordstrom and thrifted).

I know it’s not entirely monochromatic, given the belt and the shoes, but I don’t know that I have it in me to go head-to-toe cream.  Or any other color for that matter.  Maybe black; I’ll have to try that come this fall.
For more monochromatic looks that probably aren’t broken up by off-colored belts, visit Everybody, Everywear.

And Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

Shamelessly Shapeless

With my size (currently a 14) and build (broad shoulders and rebellious thighs) I usually try to avoid shapeless clothing as it can make me look bigger than I am which in turn encourages my thighs to make a bid to be recognized as an independent nation by the UN.  Usually.  Today, however, I am shamelessly shapeless:

And I like it.  I’m not sure if I like it because it works or because it’s so comfortable, but I think it works.  If it does, it’s because the two bottom layers (a Gap maxi dress under a thrifted Gap shift dress/tunic) are quite slim which helps keep the bulk down and allows for a thicker top layer (Jones New York sweater via Ross).  I also added over-the-knee socks (Nordstrom), blue suede booties (DV Dolce Vita “Wyatt” via Nordstrom) and an infinity scarf (Steve Madden via Macy’s).

Today’s Takeaway?

Try OTK socks under your maxi dresses instead of tights.  I’ve found that tights under maxi dresses can be a bit clingy and frustrating, so to take your maxi dresses and skirts into fall, try OTK socks instead; I didn’t have half the problems with static cling with the socks that I usually have with tights.

Happy Wednesday, All!
