Emerald & Animal

I know I came out as being anti-emerald when it was announced as the Pantone 2013 Color of the Year.  But, I don't hate it (mint, I hate).  I just don't love it.  Which is why this emerald silk blouse doesn't get much wear:

In addition to my poor orphaned blouse (Oscar de la Renta via Salvation Army), I wore skinny jeans (Old Navy "Rockstar" mid-rise), animal print booties (80%20 via Piperlime), a cuff (Macy's) and a necklace (Nordstrom).

I don't know why I don't wear this blouse.  All I can say is that green is just not a color I gravitate towards. What about you, Reader Friends?  Are there any colors you just don't wear?  Do you actually have rational reasons for not wearing them?

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

Black and Baroque

Aside from the unfortunate placement of some of the design elements, I rather like this Yves St. Clair vintage blouse:

Although I have a well-documented affection for scarf-print blouses from the 80s, I wasn’t sure about this one because it’s not very colorful.  But, I do love the pattern (baroque nipple shields aside) and really like it paired with black skinnies (a.n.a via JC Penney) and animal print wedges (80%20 via Piperlime).

I also added a filigree heart necklace (Modcloth) that I think works well with the pattern of the blouse:

I know, it’s not terribly spring-y look, but as they say, if it’s not baroque, don’t fix it.  And, in my opinion, this outfit doesn’t need any fixing.

Happy Tuesday, Everyone!

Basic Blue and an Animal Print Shoe

Mostly because I like rhyming:

And pattern mixing.  Which I guess means this look isn’t really basicblue:

But, honestly, in spite of the mixed print blouse (Banana Republic) paired with the polka dot blazer (Pendleton “Country Sophisticates, thrifted) and the animal print shoes (80%20 via Piperlime) this feels like a very basic outfit to me.  I mean, it's just jeans (Banana Republic), blouse and blazer, but it doesn't feel boring.

Thank goodness for pattern-mixing.

Subdued

My friend looked at this outfit and said I looked “subdued”:

Yes, this shirt was considered subdued:

I mean, it doesn't light up or anything, but subdued?  Really?

Which kind of makes me wonder what people think about my style.  I mean, I must dress like a complete lunatic for a wildly printed blouse (vintage via Goodwill) paired with animal print booties (80%20 via Piperlime) to be considered subdued.  Or maybe the black skirt (Goodwill) and tights (Spanx via Nordstrom) do actually work to subdue the mixed prints (not my intention).  Or, maybe, just maybe, my friend is the lunatic.  Yeah, I’m going with that.

Happy Wednesday, Everyone!

Bare Legs and Booties

It has been unseasonably warm here in Oregon over the past few days, giving me the opportunity to wear things I usually can’t in November.  Like yesterday’s suede boots and today’s bare legs and booties:

Seriously, it’s in the 60s today and, so far, no rain, so I figured it was a good day to go without tights and to wear these animal print booties.  They’re calf-hair, so they’re water resistant, but I worry about getting them muddy.  (Now that I have to walk to work like a plebe, I have to think about things like that).  No worries today though; it really is the perfect weather for wearing the booties (80%20 "Tessa" via Piperlime) and my favorite pleated skirt (thrifted) sans tights.  I paired the booties and the skirt with an open-weave sweater (Old Navy), vintage bracelet and a vintage, moss agate necklace (Lil’ Gypsy).

Happy Tuesday, All!  And Happy Election Day, U.S. Reader Friends!

Day One: In the Land of Nosh Opping

I embarked on my journey into the peculiar land of Nosh Opping today.  It is truly a strange country; all credit cards had to be left at the border and there are no thrift stores.  I do not know how long I will last here, but I am dedicated to exploring the currently uncharted region the locals call The Giants Closet, so I will hold out as long as I am able.

For the first day of my expedition, I wore the following:

I paired a pleated skirt (thrifted) with a silk tank (Anna & Frank, thrifted), an open open-weave cardigan (Eddie Bauer, thrifted), animal print booties (80%20 via Piperlime), lion drop earrings (vintage), a cameo bracelet (vintage) and a long necklace (thrifted).

The pleated skirt probably looks familiar as I wear it often.  The booties are also a favorite of mine and have been seen before, but the silk blouse and the cardigan may be less familiar.  I actually found these artifacts as I explored The Giants Closet today, which was encouraging.    It is my hope that I will find similarly pleasing items as I explore the region, but I know this will not always be the case.  There are bound to be pitfalls filled with sharpened stakes and/or ill-fitting clothes.

Pitfalls or no, I shall continue to document my progress in Nosh Opping, and The Giants Closet, for as long as I am able to resist the lure of thrift stores in the outside world.

Happy Wednesday, All!

Two for One

Yesterday I posted my outfit from Saturday night, so I’m including my outfit from yesterday, as well as today’s outfit, in today’s post.

This is yesterday’s outfit:

Close up of the animal print booties

Yesterday I wore pleats and animal.  I paired a black pleated skirt (thrifted), cream silk tank (thrifted), cranberry wool cardigan (Ports International, thrifted), black tights (Spanx), owl belt (Ross), tassel pendant (Old Navy) and animal print booties (80%20 “Tessa” via Piperlime).

And this is today’s outfit:

Today is very windy!

Today I wore stars and studs.  I paired a star-print skirt (thrifted) with a plain white tee (Target) and a black cardigan (Gap).  I added black wedge booties (Nine West “Peekaboo” via Piperlime), a red, studded belt (thrifted), strange little dunce-man earrings (gifted) and bright red tights (DKNY via Nordstrom).

Due to a nearly crippling combination of laziness and poor computer skills, I don’t do retrospectives or even show multiple outfits in a single post.  But, I do think it’s kind of interesting to see a couple outfits together that show there is basically no rhyme or reason to what I leave the house in.

Happy Tuesday, All!
