Easy, Colorful and Pants-y

It’s still Pants Weather here in Oregon, so I’m still wearing pants:

(Shop the Look**: Polka dot pants, I couldn't find a similar blouse, but I love the idea of using this striped scarf to create a similar look with a plain blouse, mustard cardigan and blue wedge sandals)

I wear these pants a lot.  I think they are, outside of a couple of pairs of shoes, the single item that I wore the most this summer.  Which is good.  I am trying to be more conscientious about buying clothes I willwear instead of clothes I could wear.  And I don’t just mean something I’ll wear once either; I want to have clothes that I can and will wear multiple times.

In addition to the oft-worn pants (LOFT), I also wore what’s rapidly become an oft-worn blouse (vintage via Vintage by the Pound).  I can’t seem to resist this blouse, because well, stripes and a bow, people, stripes and a bow.  I added a yellow cardigan (via my Mom), blue wedges (Franco Sarto, thrifted) and a few bracelets to complete the look.

And I liked it quite a bit; it was easy, colorful and pants-y; which is perfect for a Monday.  Especially this Monday.  I did master the Peter Pan in pole dancing class yesterday, but I am very sore and physically tired today.  Luckily I’m not back to working out until Jazzercise tomorrow.

How about you, Reader Friends?  How was your weekend?

P.S. Sorry for the photo quality, we took them at a later time than usual and I was too tired (lazy) to figure out the lighting.

Clothing Swap

Hello, Everyone!  Today, in lieu of my usual occasional Saturday Stuff and Things, I’m participating in the Style Agent 909 Clothing Swap.  We were all supposed to come up with 5 or so items to swap.

Here are my pieces…

First up, is a white, linen “Lauren” Ralph Lauren skirt in size 12:

I like this skirt, but it is very, very full.  Which is why I’m getting rid of it.  Well, that and the fact that I have multiple white skirts.  But, really though, it’s mostly the fullness.  I have too much hustle in my bustle for this skirt.  If you have less of a bustle, I think this skirt will work well.  It will also work on a size 14 if you wear it higher on the waist; I know this because I’m a 14 and that’s where I wore it.

Item # 2 is my beloved “safari” vest:

I love this piece, but it’s too small across the chest for me (I’m a 38B).  I thrifted this piece so I’m not sure what size it is, but I’d say it’s probably a 12.  Here is a photo of me in the vest so you can see the fit:

Sadly, it just doesn’t quite button, otherwise, I would absolutely keep it.

Next we have a sheer, purple Gap blouse in Large:

Yes, it is veeeerrry sheer.
I’m getting rid of this piece because I never wear it.  I’ve only worn it once in year that I’ve owned it.  I can’t say why, but it really just doesn’t work for me.  Although it’s a large, it will work on a size 14.  Here's proof:

Also, as you can see from the above photo, it has a sort of mini-ruffle-peplum.

Item # 4 is a black croc/snake print dress in size 14:

This dress is made of matte jersey and has a sewn in self-belt:

It’s extremely comfortable and very flattering.  The skirt is about knee length on me and full enough to easily ride a bike in:

Aww, a photo from my early days of blogging...

This is another piece that I’m swapping only because I never wear it.  I just have several black dresses and other printed black dresses that I wear more.

Next is a yellow tunic from Target:

I know a lot of people don’t wear yellow, but this is a lovely yellow.  It’s more of a golden yellow than bright yellow.  And it has lovely dramatic dolman sleeves and an embroidered bib.  Unfortunately, I don’t wear it.  Why?  Because I can’t belt it and it drives me crazy.  If you’re less of a belting fanatic, this may very well be a good piece for you.
This is a Large, but will fit a size 14.  Here is how it fits me:

Finally, I’m swapping this pair of cameo earrings:

They are just inexpensive plastic, but were a good way for me to ease into wearing cameos.  I didn’t know if they were really “me” until I tried this pair out.  I’ve since upgraded to a pair of cameo and garnet drop earrings, so I’m passing these on.

Now for my wish list:

Leopard flats - size 10 - I know this is a long shot, but I'm putting it out there

Black maxi dress - size L or XL

Gingham shirt - size 14

Ikat print scarf

Lace skirt - A-line, about knee-length, size 14

If you're interesting in swapping, you can reach me at fashionforgiants @ gmail (dot) com.  Also, don't forget to visit Style Agent 909 to see who else is participating!

Misunderstood

None of my co-workers understand today’s outfit:

(Shop the look**: Wit & Wisdom Polka Dot Jeggings, Similar Blouse, Similar Shoes)

I think it’s brilliant, but I guess the mix of three different patterns sort of blew their minds.  Which I understand; triple pattern mixing is definitely a stretch for me.  But, I really, really do think it works.

And I think the reason it works is because every piece is from the same color family.  The polka dot skinny jeans (Wit and Wisdom via Nordstrom) pick up the darker blue leopard spots of the shoes (Nine West “Naughty”) and the blouse (Banana Republic).  The bright blue of the shoes is also present in the blouse.  And, in addition to being in the same color family, I also picked patterns that play well together.  The blouse contains both paisley and polka dot, which makes it easy to pair with both the jeans and the leopard flats.

Or, I’m crazy and this outfit in no way works.  I have to say though; I don’t feel crazy.

But, what do you think, Reader Friends?  Would youpair these pieces?

Happy Friday, Everyone!  Have a fabulous weekend!

Pants Weather

I’ve been so busy lamenting the fact that it’s not yet sweater weather, that I forgot what kind of weather it is.  It’s pants weather, people:

Earring Close Up

Pants weather for me is the very small window where it’s not hot but it’s also not raining.  (I don’t like to wear pants or jeans in the rain because they take too long to dry after the morning commute).  And the weather right now is just perfect.

Is it white pants weather though?  Eh, not for some, maybe, but I’m good with it.  These particular white pants are Gap Always Skinny jeans and this is my first time wearing them on the blog.  I’d been looking for white jeans for a couple years, but they’re all so tight and see-through, that I couldn’t find a pair I liked.  And then I saw a tip on a blog (I wish I could remember which one) that suggested sizing up on skinny jeans for a more relaxed look.

And I think it worked.  I like these jeans and I like them with this lemon-yellow silk tee (Dana Buchman, thrifted).  I also added gray snake platforms (Pierre Dumas “Chic-1” via Piperlime), a bead and chain necklace (Nordstrom, v. old), a thrifted cuff and vintage turquoise earrings.  Sure it seems a little summery, but I’m actually planning on wearing lemon yellow all fall, so we’re just going to pretend it’s a good transitional outfit.
Shop the Look**:

As you may have noticed, I’ve added a new “Shop the Look” section to my posts.  I’ve had enough interest from readers in finding exact or similar pieces to what I wear, that I thought it might be a good idea to add this feature.  I want you to know that, that in adding this, I did become affiliated with a couple of monetizing networks, so clicking on the links could result in my being compensated.  You can read more about that on the Disclosure tab I added to my blog.  And, effective immediately, I will also include a disclosure statement on every post where clicking on the link could result in compensation for me.

Holy smokes, this was wordy, so I’m going to stop here and wish you all a Happy Thursday!
